At 157 m (509 ft) Below Sea Level, Lac Assal, in the tiny African country of Djibouti, is the lowest point on the African Continent. It is the third lowest country low point after the Dead Sea (Israel, Jordan and Palestine) and the Galilee Sea (Syria). Lac Assal is just 1 m (3 ft) lower than Lake Aydingkol in China.
