Ayutthaya

Friday to Monday, January 3-6, 2014

Approaching the UNESCO World Heritage City of Ayutthaya it dawned on me that I had actually been here before, albeit for a very short visit, in 2005, on a whirlwind trip to some cities in SE Asia (with a quick side-trip to Sydney thrown in). That time I came on a daytrip from Bangkok.

This time we planned to spend 2 nights and ended up staying 3; this allowed us to savor more of what this place has to offer, at a leisurely pace. We visited 5 of the bigger ancient sites, revisited 3 after sunset, drove past many more, took in the museum, and left it at that to avoid cultural overload. We sampled local cuisine at different restaurants in ‘backpackers’ alley’ and found Coffee Old City, where we’ve enjoyed the best lattes till date in Thailand: hot, just the right ratio of coffee and milk and no sugar.

Below is an impression of images from Ayutthaya, rather than try and list all the names of the temples visited.
