Day 51 and 52 (0 kms)
I had got to Whakahoro and the launching off point for th Whanganui River Journey. However, as the river was officially closed and canoe companies would not rent us any equipment, I had a two days to cool my heals and recharge my battery bank (my electrical battery bank).
Our hosts for the last two nights drove myself and two others in Taumarunui, where we and other TA walkers assembled at the local cafe to get a caffeine hit. Not too long later my cousin Alex arrived and whisked me away to Pukawa, and to the bach there. It is always nice to spend time with family. Alex and I had a few chores to do to prepare for the 5 days on the river, like shopping for food, but this was quickly done. The rest of the time was spent taking Murphy for walks and burying dead rabbits.
