Q
Our new Travel Truck has recently arrived. His name is Q.
We are now thinking about what to add to Q. He came with a few extras from the factory, like an extra battery, lot’s of unused electrical switches in the front and lockers for the front and back differential. Below is a short list of additions we have made.
Radio Communications

Installed a GME XRS Connect Outback Pack Radio system and complimented this with two GME handheld radios. Fortunately in New Zealand there are no radio licensing requirements, so we can just buy radio gear and start using it.
Side Runners
It didn’t take long for us to work out that getting into and out of Q was not that easy. Fortunately it was super easy to add Side Runners.
Air Compressor

The first item in the recovery gear was an air compressor. This allows us to air down the tires knowing we can air them back up when needed. We added a twin ARB air compressor with small tank all packaged in a handy dandy plastic case.
Recovery Boards
The second item of recovery gear was recovery boards from Maxtrax. Pretty standard equipment these days for when we leave the sealed road.
Lithium Power Station
Q comes with two batteries, but they are not well setup for running continuous loads like fridges. Problem is solved with the addition of a 850 watt.hr Bluetti Power Station. Also acts as a backup supply for our home.
Fridge
To keep the drinks cold, a modest fridge can be strapped into the cargo space. And while it can run off Q while Q’s engine is on, the fridge will typically be connected to the Power Station
Battery Charger and Maintainer
After way too much research and over-thinking, ordered a battery maintainer from CTEK. We will have to leave unattended for long durations, and want to ensure the batteries are maintained.
First Aid Kit
Working on this important safety item. Just got to find a good kit to add.
Chainsaw
The third piece of recovery gear. A battery operated chainsaw to allow Q to pass backroad with fallen trees. Like the Lithium Power Station, the chainsaw can be used around the home.
