Not long now until the walk starts. So, time to look at the weather.
Below are two images, the second one is from 1 week ago, notice there is snow on the ground (click images to get higher detail). The first image is from the same time last year. The pictures and the amount of snow are almost identical.
The next image is from July 16, 2024. As you can see, all the snow has basically burned off. There is some snow to the north-west of Lake Askja. So, the snow we see now could disappear before we get there. That is of course, assuming this year is like last year 🙂 Plan is to be at Dreki Hut around the 20th. The second image is north of Mývatn, which currently has snow, but by July 9th of 2024, this had disappeared.
