Warning Lights

We have talked about adding warning lights to Molly for a very long time. Not because we want to warn others, but because we want to say hello to others. If we see other Overlanders on the road, we can use the warning lights to give a visible greeting. While we wave madly from the cab. And, these lights can also be used as warning lights.

The Lights

We choose the Feniex Industries – Fusion-S Surface Mount in an Amber colour. They claim to be the brightest lights in the world, which obviously isn’t true. But they are bright, even in the middle of the day.

The Install

They are mounted just under our light bar. In this location we could use existing holes and mounting bolts. And most importantly, avoid making any new holes in Molly. The lights attach to an L-shaped bracket from Feniex, and the bracket attaches to the existing light bar mounting points. A few holes were drilled in the mounting bracket.

The lights come with a ridiculously short 20 centimeter cable. So we added weather-proof automotive grade connectors and more cable to allow us to wire the lights back to the inside of the cab. Where we installed a simple on/off switch. We ordered a new FUSO switch and it into a existing hole which had a blank insert. The switch is located between the driver and passenger on the front console, so eithe rof use can switch it on or off.

In the future we might make a more sophisticated switch panel in the overhead area, but we wanted to get this project going and this was the easiest place to add a switch.

The power for the lights are supplied from the house batteries and not the truck batteries. We did this because there is an easy to access fusebox that Earhtcruiser added. Much easier than breaking into the FUSO wiring harness.
