Tofino and Ucluelet

TUESDAY through Friday, September 12th to 15th, 2023

There is one National Park on Vancouver Island, and that is the Pacific Rim National Park Reserve. Either side of the park are the townships of Tofino and Ucluelet. The drive is not long to get there, but we were running a little late, so decided to stop along the way at Snow Creek Recreational Site, located on the shores of Sproat Lake. Apart from the Camp Host, we had the entire camping ground to ourselves. We sat on our camp-site beach and enjoyed the mountain scenery. The water was too tempting, and Stephen had to go for a swim.

Tofino is a cute little surf town, with everything you need and don’t. Birthday lunch was at the local burger pub. After walking around town for a bit, the afternoon was quickly disappearing and we headed out to find a campground. Super lucky to find Surf Grove. In fact, we liked it so much we stayed for two nights. It is located on Cox’s Bay Beach, which is one of those large gorgeous sandy surf beaches. We took a little time out and enjoyed the beach. Again Stephen went swimming in the exceptionally cold water. A wetsuit is required if spending more than 10 minutes in the water.

As we drove from Tofino to Ucluelet, we stopped at all the available stopping points in the Pacific Rim National Park. This made for a leisurely. Once in Ucluelet we drove around to see this small and quiet town. We walked to the light-house along a very nice coastal path. for the first time on this trip we had pre-booked our campsite, which turned out to be very nice indeed. And probably was a good idea, as there were limited camping opportunities in this small town. Being early to camp, allowed Stephen to complete the coastal path started earlier in the day to its northern end.

Our electrical steps are starting to fail, which is not good.
