Vancouver Island to Whistler

Saturday, September 16th, 2023

Time to leave the central west coast. Mainly because we had a date with a parts man in Courtenay. The motor on our electrical steps is on the verge of failing, and time for a new motor. This is a spare part I should have on hand, as it is a part known to fail. Fortunately we found one on the Island

Along the way we stopped at Port Alberni and watched the Port Alberni Toy Run, which is several hundred motorcyclists cruising through town. Also stopped at the habour for the afternoon obligatory coffee.

As we drove to the east coast, we changed our plans. When we woke up, we planned to travel to Victoria and a little “town time”. The plans changed from Victoria to Whistler, when we discovered that we could catch-up with a friend there. So mid-drive, we diverted to Nanaimo to try and catch the 6:15pm ferry back to the mainline. Fortune favored us, and we made the sailing. The ferry crossing was on calm seas. We got to see a whale breach and show its tail, so overall a very nice crossing. Once back on the mainland, we headed Molly to the Sea-to-Sky highway and in the direction of Whistler. It was a late arrival and driving in the dark, but it was all worth it. It has been many years since we have been in Whistler.

The car in front of the Corvette is an unmarked Police car. The surfboards are a nice touch. The Police car is escorting the Corvette back to the Police Station in Port Alberni, we think to impound the car. Cause that is what they do in Canada. The Corvette was caught speeding as it overtook us. All pretty funny really.
We joined the tail end of the Port Alberni Toy Run.
Back on the ferry. Vancouver Island, it has been fun.
