Malcolm Island

Sunday and Monday, September 3rd and 4th, 2023

So again, we set off to park and sleep outside a house of a person we had never met. We took the slightly slower and apparently more scenic road, the 19A, up to Port McNeill. We were hoping for beautiful costal views, but it was mainly trees. Lots and lots of trees. Then we took a ferry over to Malcolm Island, along with about 10 other cars. The island is small and has only around 250 permanent residents. We soon found the brother, shared a welcome drinks and chatted like old friends. Dave gave us some really good advice on places to go, and we marked-up our road atlas with his suggestions. The first of which was Bere Point, to hopefully see some Orcas. We camped the night there and waiting for a few hours in hopes of spotting the Orcas, but was happy to see about 20 harbour dolphins. We are starting take it easy. We also decided to head quickly to the North of the Island, and then make our way back down more slowly, taking in the spots suggested by the locals.

The baby ferry to Malcolm Island.
The Norgale. Proudly owned by our host for the night.
Indeed, we come in peace.
We walked around the township, and found some art along the way.
